Even though Paramount+ is one of the relatively new services on the streaming scene, it has a ton of great content. A superbly strong new outing in a franchise with enormous pedigree, Dexter: Original Sin is an unapologetically gruesome series. In light of the success of the British original, this US remake breaks the mold of other failed adaptations and has become a triumphant hit. Created by Ben H. Winters, Tracker is an action-drama series based on Jefferey Deaver’s 2019 novel The Never Game. The show follows Colter Shaw, a lone-wolf survivalist and tracker who uses his past trauma and instincts to find missing people for law enforcement in exchange for reward money, with the help of his handlers, Teddi and Velma, tech expert Bobby, and lawyer Reenie. Tracker stars Justin Hartley (Smallville) as the titular tracker, Colter, with Robin Weigert (Deadwood) as Teddi, Abby McEnany (Work in Progress) as Velma, Eric Graise as Bobby, and Fiona Rene as Reenie. Tracker premiered in February 2024 to generally positive reviews from viewers and critics alike. A second season was released in October 2024. The series explores a classic action thriller formula with an efficient and no-frills approach, which makes it highly entertaining. Tracker has drawn special praise for Justin Hartley’s charismatic performance in the lead role, culminating in an entertaining show that’s just the right mix of serious and silly.

‘Fire Country’ (2022 – Present)

Created by the trio of Tony Phelan, Joan Rater, and Max Thieriot, Fire Country follows the latter of the three as Bode Donavan, a convict who joins the ranks of the California Conservation Camp Program on the hunt for a reduced sentence. Whilst there, Bode finds a new purpose, becoming a benefit to his hometown community in Northern California. A fast-paced, fun procedural with plenty of action, Fire Country is known for its ensemble of terrific performances, from the aforementioned Thieriot to Kevin Alejandro. Though never far from controversy, the series has remained a staple in the TV viewing habits of millions since its debut two years ago, with the upcoming third season set to fan the flames to new burning heights. – Jake Hodges

‘Matlock’ (2024 – Present)

A big hit in 2024, and a gender-swapped reboot of the original series, Matlock stars Academy Award winner Kathy Bates as the titular Matlock, a former lawyer who returns to work after some time, intent on becoming the smartest, most cunning case-winner at the firm. Many aspects of Matlock work in its favor, but it’s hard to look past Bates’ stunning lead performance when considering Matlock’s best features. Alongside Bates in this intelligently assembled cast are the likes of Skye P. Marshall, David Del Rio, Leah Lewis, Jason Ritter, and more, all of whom work wonders with a set of witty scripts. Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s iconic animated creation, South Park, became an instant phenomenon and, upon its debut, earned the highest ratings of any cable program on several occasions. The show follows the wild misadventures and unlikely lives of four grade-schoolers. However, these are no normal children, with their foul-mouthed, often disgusting antics leading to obscene and regularly hilarious shenanigans that are certainly not safe for kids. Across 30 seasons to date, no celebrity, theme, or political event has been safe from the satirical eyes of Stone and Parker, with the happenings in South Park always feeling relevant and fresh. ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ (2003 – 2010)

Since the ‘80s, there hasn’t been a time without some kind of Ninja Turtle content, from live-action films to animated series to the original comic…but the top of the rankings has to be the seven-season Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series from the early 2000s. Departing from the comedic toy commercials that ran throughout the ‘90s series, this revival veers closer to the more mature themes and radical action setpieces of the comic books. Fans of the franchise get to grow with their favorite Turtles as this series expertly uses serialized storytelling to give each one their own unique and interesting arc. Before the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem film, this series was the best that any Ninja Turtle fan could ask for.
